Perry High School Dance Team

The Dance Team is run by Faye Southward. The PHS Pulse Dance Team tryouts occur every spring and are open to students in grades 8-11. The season usually runs from May- February, with occasional practices/clinics/camps in the summer.  The Dance Team practices 2-3 times a week during the school year, and they learn a variety of dance routines such as pom, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, kick, hoopla, lights, military, prop, novelty, and co-ed. The Dance Team performs at 1 or 2 football games and most home basketball games. They compete in the ISDTA state dance championships, which is considered the largest high school dance team competition, in early December.  Sometimes they also compete in Regionals in January or February. The Dance Team members also host youth clinics for students in grades K-5. Select members even have the opportunity to audition for the All IA Honor Dance Squad, which performs at the Girls’ State Basketball Tournament, and to compete in solo competition at state. The season comes to an end with the annual Spring Showcase, which features all routines from the year, along with Senior Spotlights and audience participation opportunities.
